About The Women Forward Initiative at PBMR

The Women Forward Initiative is dedicated to accompany women and families impacted by the effects of violence and incarceration in their efforts to move their lives forward. Women Forward seeks to engage women in activities that unite and heal, that empower and restore and that strengthen each participant in their physical, emotional, financial and spiritual development.

The Women Forward Ministry seeks to support the Women of PBMR by mentoring young women in their efforts to parent their children, further their education and become gainfully employed; as well as accompanying women who have lost children to violence or incarceration through mentoring, presence and regular circles of support.

The Women Forward Initiative at PBMR includes the following programs:

Healing in Community

Often the young men we work with will say, "Can you reach out to my mom?" Mothers in particular are impacted by violence to their children and communities.

During Mother’s Circle women who have lost children to gun violence and/or incarceration come together to talk, support and heal. Our Mother’s Circle uses the process and the ideology of accompaniment to work towards healing.

Accompanying Young Women

Women often face the greatest barriers to personal success. The Young Women’s Initiative embraces women, ages 17-24, who have experienced community violence or incarceration and empowers them to live a purposed life of restoration and resiliency.

Through mentorship, case management, job readiness and spiritual/educational opportunities we aid young women on their journey.

Caring for Families

Families are one of the strongest and most resilient forces to bring about change in our neighborhoods. PBMR seeks to walk with families as they navigate the challenges that arise throughout their lives and provide spaces of hospitality, hope, and healing for the whole family.
