OUR HISTORY

“What if we could create a place that works to build up a neighborhood impacted by violence and incarceration? It would be a place of healing and hope. This place would work towards a more healthy and restorative community where young people and families could thrive.”

– Father David Kelly, C.PP.S.
Executive Director, Precious Blood Ministry of Reconciliation (PBMR)

2002

A group of priests from the Missionaries of the Precious Blood proposed a center for reconciliation. The first step was to become part of the community by moving there and coming to know the residents and stakeholders – neighbors, ministers, teachers, and corner stores.

2004

The Precious Blood Ministry of Reconciliation (PBMR) was established as a 501(c)(3). Since its inception, PBMR has served young people and families most impacted by violence, incarceration, and structural inequity. PBMR focuses its work in Chicago’s Back of the Yards and Englewood neighborhoods, and works with youth who are justice-involved, re-entering the community after incarceration, or actively incarcerated.

2012

Restorative Justice (RJ) Hubs are established to reduce youth violence and admissions into juvenile courts. RJ Hubs use a trauma informed care model that engages participants in many activities such as “peacemaking circles” as a means to help youth, families, and communities heal and reconcile.

2016

PBMR grows by adding workforce development training and expanding its Education Lab. Education and gainful work provide hope, dignity, and the opportunity for individual growth.
