Meet Cynthia

Mothers' Circle

Cynthia's son was incarcerated in Statesville Prison, and sadly died from COVID-19 this past March. Since then, she has found some healing and community in PBMR's Mothers' Circle. Our Mothers’ Circle invites women affected by violence and incarceration in the community to find healing alongside one another. Click on the video to hear how Cynthia is finding strength, healing and hope through her relationships with Sr. Donna and the community of mothers in Back of the Yards.

Meet DP & Sakina

Family Circles

DP and Sakina became connected to PBMR through their son, Tommy, who first came to the center around 8 years ago. Their family has immersed itself deep into the community, accompanying numerous friends, families and young people in the neighborhood. Through their kindness, DP and Sakina have become role models and beacons of hope, despite the challenges that face their own family. Through family circles, DP and Sakina unpack the tools they need to move forward together, and strive to navigate job-seeking, financial hardship, and violence in their streets.

Meet Curtis

Flower Boxes

In the aftermath of George Floyd's murder, Curtis mentioned that he wanted to just talk with people about racism and our community. This comment blossomed into a friendship with Ann Omrod, founder and CEO of John Galt Solutions, and has led Curtis and Fr. Denny to work together in the basement of Mother Brunner House to build flower boxes. Curtis delivers these boxes to grieving mothers on the anniversaries of their children’s deaths in an effort to bring healing and beauty to the community. Watch the video to see how an unexpected partnership encouraged and supported Curtis’ mission to bring healing to our hurting world.
